2805.
Dỗ dành, khuyên giải trăm chiều,
Lửa phiền càng dập, càng khêu mối phiền.
Thề xưa giở đến kim hoàn,
Của xưa lại giở đến đàn với hương.
Sinh càng trông thấy càng thương.

2810.
Gan càng tức tối, ruột càng xót xa.
Rằng: “Tôi trót quá chân ra,
Để cho đến nỗi trôi hoa dạt bèo.
Cùng nhau thề thốt đã nhiều,
Những điều vàng đá, phải điều nói không!

2815.
Chưa chăn gối cũng vợ chồng,
Lòng nào mà nỡ phụ lòng cho đang?
Bao nhiêu của mấy ngày đàng,
Còn tôi, tôi một gặp nàng mới thôi!”
Nỗi thương nói chẳng hết lời,

2820.
Tạ từ sinh mới sụt sùi bứơc ra.
Vội vàng sửa chốn vườn hoa,
Rước mời viên ngoại ông bà cùng sang.
Thần hôn chăm chút lễ thường,
Dưỡng thân thay tấm lòng nàng ngày xưa.

2825.
Đinh ninh mài lệ chép thơ,
Cắt người tìm tõi, đưa tờ nhắn nhe.
Biết bao công muợn của thuê,
Lâm Thanh mấy độ đi về dặm khơi.
Người một nơi, hỏi một nơi,

2830.
Mông mênh nào biết bể trời nơi nao?
Sinh càng thảm thiết khát khao,
Như nung gan sắt, như bào lòng son.
Ruột tằm ngày một héo don,
Tuyết sương ngày một hao mòn hình ve.

2835.
Thẫn thờ lúc tỉnh lúc mê,
Máu theo nước mắt, hồn lìa chiêm bao.
Xuân huyên lo sợ biết bao,
Quá ra khi đến thế nào mà hay!
Vội vàng sắm sửa chọn ngày,

2805.
Old Vuong tried to comfort Kim in several ways,
But the more the fire of sadness extinguished, the greater the pain Kim suffered.
Then they showed him the golden bracelets that Kim was betrothed to Kieu,
And other souvenirs were their old lute and incense.
The more he looked at them, the more he felt sorry for her.

2810.
The more his liver got worked up, the more painful his bowels became.
He said, “Because I went a long way,
I let her escape like a drifting flower.
Both of us swore many vows, Which were firm like bronze and stone, not idle words.

2815. Even though we have never shared a bed, we are already husband and wife.
How am I unable to find in my heart to abandon our love?
Even if it is worth gold and time,
I am determined to find her as long as I live.
He suffered worse than any words could say.

2820. Suppressing his sobs, he said goodbye and left.
He rushed home and tidied up a lodge in his garden,
Afterwards, he invited the parents of Kieu to stay there.
He looked after them and did the filial godliness of a son.
And substituted Kieu to take care of her parents as she had formerly.

2825. He wrote letters to her affectionately in ink mingled with tears.
And sent agents or messages to find out her whereabouts.
A lot of money and effort was expended,
He hired someone to go to Lam Thanh several times.
He searched for her somewhere while she was in another,

2830. Should he know her whereabouts in the vast ocean and the sky?
Kim became increasingly tragic and longed to be reunited with her.
Like he had a broken heart and a burnt liver.
Like a silkworm turning its silk, Kim has become emaciated.
Like a cicada, he withered with snow and frost.

2835. Bewildered, sometimes he was awake and sometimes unconscious.
His tears mingled with the blood and his soul was in a dream.
How frightened were his parents!
His sorrow can lead him to something that has gone too far.
They prepared hastily and decided upon a wedding date.
