1895.
Cúi đầu quỳ trước sân hoa,
Thân cung nàng mới dâng qua một tờ.
Diện tiền trình với tiểu thư,
Thoạt xem dường có ngẩn ngơ chút tình.
Liền tay trao lại Thúc Sinh,

1900.
Rằng: “Tài nên trọng mà tình nên thương!
Ví chăng có số giàu sang,
Giá này dẫu đúc nhà vàng cũng nên.
Bể trần chìm nổi thuyền quyên,
Hữu tài,thương nỗi vô duyên lạ đời!”

1905.
Sinh rằng: “Thật có như lời,
Hồng nhan bạc mệnh một người nào vay!
Nghìn xưa âu cũng thế này,
Từ bi, âu liệu bớt tay mới vừa”.
Tiểu thư rằng: “Ý trong tờ,

1910.
Rắp đem mệnh bạc xin nhờ cửa Không.
Thôi thì thôi cũng chiều lòng,
Cũng cho khỏi lụy trong vòng bước ra.
Sẵn Quan Âm các vườn ta,
Có cây trăm thước, có hoa bốn mùa.

1915.
Có cổ thụ, có sơn hồ,
Cho nàng ra đó giữ chùa tụng kinh”.
Tàng tàng trời mới bình minh,
Hương hoa, ngũ cúng sắm sanh lễ thường.
Đưa nàng đến trước Phật đường,

1920.
Tam quy, ngũ giới cho nàng xuất gia.
Áo xanh đổi lấy cà sa,
Pháp danh lại đổi tên ra Trạc Tuyền.
Sớm khuya tính đủ dầu đèn,
Xuân, Thu, cắt sẵn hai tên hương trà.

1925.
Nàng từ lánh gót vườn hoa,
Dường gần rừng tía, dường xa bụi hồng.
Nhân duyên đâu lại còn mong?
Khỏi điều thẹn phấn tủi hồng thì thôi.
Phật tiền thảm lấp, sầu vùi,

The Tale of Kieu (Verses 1895-1930)

1895. Bowing her head, Kieu knelt down on the flowery ground.
She gave Thuc a piece of paper about her story,
Which he gave directly to Hoan Thu.
At first glance, Hoan seemed quite emotional about what she was reading.
She immediately handed him over to Thuc and told him:

1900. “We ought to value her gifts and deplore her fate.
If she was born into a wealthy, upscale family,
Maybe she lived in a gold-plated palace.
Instead, she is a woman who, caught in a harsh sea,
So blessed by her talent, and yet so cursed by fate!”

1905. Sinh said: “It is absolutely true,
Cruel fate encroaches upon the suffering of beautiful girls.
This has been a rule of life for thousands of years,
Therefore be more gentle with her and treat her well.
The lady stated, “In her report, she pleads:

1910. She wants to dedicate her gloomy life to the Gate of Void.
I will be pleased and comply with her desire,
That she can help herself out of the circle of life.
There is a small Kuan-Yin temple in our garden,
With hundreds of yards of trees and flowers in four seasons,

1915. With ancient, lofty trees and a man-made stony lake.
There she shall hold the sanctuary and recite the sutra. ”
The next morning, as the sun rose in a clear sky,
The five offerings were prepared for the ceremony.
Thus Kieu was guided to the altar of Buddha where,

1920.
She took three vows and pledged to resist the five temptations.
A slave’s blue attire was changed to a nun’s brown dress.
She became known by a new religious name, Trac Tuyen.
They supplied Kieu with enough oil to illuminate the lamps at dawn and twilight.
Both servants Xuan and Thu were asked to help her burn incense and prepare tea.

1925.
Ever since Kieu took refuge in that garden.
Close to the sky and away from the red dust of the world.
She had no hope of being reunited with Thuc Sinh,
And the only satisfaction of being released from disgrace.
At the feet of Buddha, she buried the pains during the day.
