Truyện Kiều (Câu 1335-1370)

1335.
Bình Khang nấn ná bấy lâu,
Yêu hoa yêu được một màu điểm trang.
Rồi ra lạt phấn phai hương,
Lòng kia giữ được thường thường mãi chăng?
Vả trong thềm quế cung trăng,

1340.
Chủ trương đành đã chị Hằng ở trong.
Bấy lâu khăng khít dải đồng,
Thêm người, người cũng chia lòng riêng tây.
Vẻ chi chút phận bèo mây,
Làm cho bể ái khi đầy khi vơi!

1345.
Trăm đừơng ngang ngửa vì tôi,
Thân sau ai chịu tội trời ấy cho?…
Như chàng có vững tay co,
Mười phần cũng đắp điếm cho một vài.
Thế trong dầu lớn hơn ngoài,

1350.
Trước hàm sư tử gửi người đằng la.
Cúi đầu luồn xuống mái nhà,
Giấm chua lại tội bằng ba lửa nồng!
Ở trên còn có nhà thông,
Lòng trên trông xuống biết lòng có thương?

1335.
Sá chi liễu ngõ hoa tường,
Lầu xanh lại bỏ ra phường lầu xanh!
Lại càng dơ dáng dại hình,
Đành thân phận thiếp, ngại danh giá chàng.
Thương sao cho vẹn thì thương.

1360.
Tính sao cho vẹn mọi đường thì vâng!
Sinh rằng: “Hay nói đè chừng,
Lòng đây lòng đấy, chưa từng hay sao?
Đường xa chớ ngại Ngô, Lào,
Trăm điều hãy cứ trông vào một ta!

1365.
Đã gần chi có điều xa,
Đá vàng đã quyết, phong ba cũng liều”.
Cùng nhau căn vặn đến điều,
Chỉ non thề bể nặng gieo đến lời.
Nỉ non đêm ngắn, tình dài,

You have lingered so long in this Binh Khang brothel.
You think you love me but what if you love the hue of my petals,
What about when my blossom becomes withered, and scent fades?
Will you maintain your ardor, will your delight remain constant?
In reality, the fairy goddess Hang Nga is in charge of your house.

1340.
The beautiful cassia surrounds your moon palace, where you dwell.
For so long the two of you have lived together so amicably,
If you take me for a second wife, your affection will be divided!
Is it worth chancing regret to float with a cloud or drift on a lily pad?
The sea of love ebbs and flows regardless of deliberate waves.

1345.
All troubles you will face will be caused by your love for me,
And then, in the afterlife, is it I who will be blamed and punished?
If you take control and steer your destiny now, with firm hands,
You might protect me from that fate, from future misery.
Equally, I fear falling prey in this life, to your goddess, a lioness!

1350.
She may indeed have power greater than the love you have for me.
It’s easy to imagine such a fate, requiring me to kneel before her!
Such distress would be worse than being a hostage in this brothel!
I understand, too, the presence of the sheltering cedar, your father.
He stands tall and watches over all of it, will he be kind or blame me?

1355.
And what of him- what if he were to have no concern for me,
Will I then be returned to this dungeon of constant demand?
Will I be abandoned, yet again, to drown in this mire of degradation?
Even if it worsens, I can bear my fate, but I worry of your reputation.
To triumph, your love would be required to be truer than true.

1360.
If you think it is such, I can agree to travel to your home with you.”
Thuc said “You seem to borrow unseen trouble, such a dim outlook!
Do you not agree that by now our hearts understand each other!?
Dearest, I see no need to fear any further than we can see.
Rely on me, please don’t fret, I will shoulder all responsibilities.

1365.
We are nearing the target now, let us plan only for a triumph!
Trust I will fight for us, believe I will brave the wind and waves.”
Exhausted, they rested in one another, wrapped in reassuring words
They swore an oath witnessed by only the mountains and sea.
This night could not contain the breadth of nature’s chorus of love.
