Tú Bà vắt nóc lên giường ngồi ngay.
Dạy rằng: “Con lạy mẹ đây,
Lạy rồi sang lạy cậu mày bên kia!”
Nàng rằng: “Phải bước lưu ly,
Phận hèn vâng đã cam bề tiểu tinh.

955.
Điều đâu lấy yến làm oanh,
Ngây thơ chẳng biết là danh phận gì?
Đủ điều nạp thái, vu quy
Đã khi chung chạ, lại khi đứng ngồi;
Giờ ra thay bậc đổi ngôi,

960.
Dám xin gửi lại một lời cho minh.
Mụ nghe nàng nói hay tình,
Bấy giờ mới nổi tam bành mụ lên:
“Này này! Sự đã quả nhiên,
Thôi đà cướp sống chồng min đi rồi!

965.
Bảo rằng đi dạo lấy người,
Đem về rước khách kiếm lời mà ăn.
Tuồng vô nghĩa ở bất nhân
Buồn mình trước đã tần mần thử chơi!
Màu hồ đã mất đi rồi,

970.
Thôi thôi vốn liếng đi đời nhà ma.
Con kia đã bán cho ta
Nhập gia phải cứ phép nhà ta đây.
Lão kia có giở bài bây,
Chẳng văng vào mặt mà mày lại nghe.

975.
Cớ sao chịu tốt một bề?
Gái tơ mà đã ngứa nghề sớm sao?
Phải làm cho biết phép tao…”
Chập bì tiên rắp sấn vào ra tay
Nàng rằng: “Trời thẳm đất dày

980.
Thân này đã bỏ những ngày ra đi.
Thôi thì thôi có tiếc gì…”
Sẵn dao tay áo tức thì giở ra,
Sợ gan nát ngọc liều hoa,
Mụ còn trông mặt, nàng đà quá tay.

950.
Dame Tu installed herself cross-legged on the bed.
She ordered “Kneel and bow before me, your mother,
Then go and bow to your father, Ma, over there.”
Kieu replied “I feel as if I am hanging by my fingernails!
I have acquiesced in being his concubine

955.
But now you want a swallow to be an oriole.
He has taken advantage of my youth and innocence
By offering me a gift in return for our nuptials
And has aggressively insisted we be together as husband and wife.
Now it turns out you expect my role to be transformed,

960. Please! Give me a word just to help make sense of it all!”
On her face could be seen Madame Tu’s shock!
She just now learned of the situation and was enraged!
“What happened is as clear as crystal, it is clear
That you have tempted my husband away from me!

965. I sent him out seeking pretty girls, to follow the plan
Bringing them home as prostitutes, just to make a profit.
Apparently he was an ingrate with a deceitful heart.
He felt an itch of the flesh, and in his greed he had you!
Now the feathers have lost their sheen and luster!

970. That bastard, his deed will greatly affect my profits!
And you! You have been bought only for me and my brothel!
You enter here as my slave, you must follow the rules of my house.
When that old man played a dirty trick on you
You didn’t slap his face, but instead you obeyed!

975. Why did you answer his lust without any protest?
You say you are innocent but you accepted his carnal pleasure!?
I will teach you the laws of my house!”
She grabbed a whip and proceeded to beat Kieu, heartily.
Despondent, our Kieu cried out, pitifully, “Oh! Earth and Sky!

980. I had already considered myself as the walking dead,
Pity me, nothing remains that I might regret.”
Hastily, she pulled the knife out of her sleeve.
Madame Tu was afraid of Kieu to ruin her body.
She could only watch, helpless, as Kieu thoroughly pierced herself.
